Something that has struck me as interesting during our readings these past few days are many variations of the golden lines are used, which I know we mentioned in class the other day. I am not sure if this is something that has just escaped me as I have had very limited experience with Elegiac Poetry (mostly my experience has come almost entirely from Catullus), but I know most often I have encountered the "noun adjective verb adjective noun" version. I am curious to know if so much variation is specific to this period or if this is just something that has escaped me due to my inexperience with this type of poetry. I do think that it makes the flow of the poem interesting in that it changes frequently, while also keeping me on my toes since I cannot expect to follow the same form from line to line. I do feel as though other poems I have encountered seemed to be more consistent, but again perhaps that is due to my lack of evidence pool.
